There is nothing worse than looking at a plain boring dorm wall–cracked paint, dusty old brick–yuck! Have you ever wanted to spice up your walls or revitalize your dorm decor but weren’t sure where to start? This was me… for almost three years!
With the rise of the digital camera aesthetic, I had a Google Drive full of memories from my first two years of college. With all of these photos, but no way to print them in a budget-friendly manner I was at a standstill.
After two years of my photos collecting dust in my camera roll, I was fed up.
The walls of our living room in our lovable, but very old, college house were blank and the lack of decor was putting all of us roommates in a funk. I had to do something about it!
I finally found my solution while scrolling through TikTok: A Scrapbook Corkboard.
A combination of photos and other saved momentos, the scrapbook corkboard was the perfect wall decor for our living room.
It was so adorable, I knew that I had to find a way to execute this craft and finally put good use to my photos!
I’m not known for being the most crafty, but this craft seemed easy enough! I already had all the elements at home: a cork board, some ribbon, postcards I had collected, and other random knick knacks. All I needed were the prints… easy right?
Surprisingly wrong! I went online to popular photo printing websites, but with the amount of photos I wanted to print and the cost of shipping, these services were out of my budget.
I’m also not one of those lucky students with a car on campus, my car is back at home…2,000 miles away! So picking up prints from a drugstore was out of the question for me.
Feeling frustrated with my lack of options, it seemed like my craft was a pipedream that would never happen. It seemed like there was no budget or college friendly way to get photos printed.
“I went online to popular photo printing websites,
but with the amount of photos I wanted to print and the cost of shipping,
these services were out of my budget.“
Then I found Frintz. THIS was how I could finally create the wall decor of my dreams.
I had so many incredible photos that I captured from my first few years of college–laughing with friends on the quad, goofy moments that can’t be explained even with context, and us all dressed up for formal– and I wanted to not just see them on my camera roll, but in physical form everyday.
But it wasn’t just the fact that I could finally print my photos…
The prints were 100% free…and the quality is a full 180° from my janky dorm basement printer—in the best way possible.
They even shipped right to my house, so no car necessary! I even placed an order for my sister, because why not? They’re free and I didn’t want her, on the precipice of being a freshman in college, to have crusty boring dorm walls like me for three years.
As soon as my prints came, I got to crafting. The photos added the perfect touch to my scrapbook cork board project.
My inspiration for this scrapbook cork board came from this TikTok. Using an empty corkboard, I first laid out a fabric background, this step is optional as it’s up to your preference! I find the fabric background to be a cute added touch and a little bit of character to your scrapbook board.
Taking some ribbon, collected postcards, and my prints, I took some time to arrange the items in a way that looked the most aesthetic to me. This took me longer than I want to admit, but only because I’m a perfectionist! I recommend using a variety of photos, scraps of fabric, little knick knacks, postcards and any other momentos you have. The variation really adds to that scrapbook look.
After you find the perfect balance, you can start to pin or tape the items onto the cork board. Then viola! The perfect easy budget friendly wall decor!
My roommates were satisfied with our now lack of depressing wall decor and I was satisfied to finally figure out a college kid budget-friendly way to print my photos.
